SPC chief in debate on future of construction industry

"How to overcome the main challenges of the industry so that investments and infrastructure development become the flywheel of the postcovid economy?" - such a question troubling the construction industry was sought for an answer by the participants of the debate organized by the economic editorial office of the Fratria Media Group. The debate was attended by Krzysztof Kieres, Chairman of the Association of Cement Producers and CEO of Dyckerhoff Polska Sp. z o.o.

During the meeting a number of specific solutions were proposed that could stimulate the Polish market and help Polish producers of construction materials. These include the issue of choosing the type of road surface, which can affect the cost of construction and maintenance of roads.

- As a "concrete" industry, we have been striving for years for both road construction technologies - asphalt and concrete - to be treated equally, because it causes technological progress, says Krzysztof Kieres, the president of the Cement Producers Association. - Therefore GDDKiA must act on behalf of the taxpayers and build safe and cheap roads that meet the existing needs. We expect that reliable analyses will finally be made to compare the costs of these investments in the whole life cycle.

Debate participants pointed out that developing two equivalent pavement technologies ensures healthy competition in terms of price and innovation. At the same time transferring the decision to the contractors in the situation when we still have a monoculture of asphalt in Poland may lead to strengthening of the current status quo and technological stagnation.

Minister Adamczyk assured that in the coming years all planned infrastructure investments will be financed from both central and local government funds, which will give a powerful impetus to the development of the Polish economy.

The debate was attended by Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk, President of Budimex Dariusz Blocher, Mayor of Radzyń Podlaski Jerzy Rębek, President of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny Mikołaj Wild and member of the Management Board of Strabag Wojciech Trojanowski.
